Get to Know: Foxy Tocin

With a burlesque stage name inspired by the love hormone, you can’t expect to feel anything else when you see Foxy Tocin perform.

This luscious, love-inducing lady lights up a stage with sass, sex-appeal, and just the right amount of satire. (After all, at her debut burlesque performance, she did do a confusingly sexy number to “PMS Blues” by Dolly Parton.) The self-described “very Virgo” woman pours her heart and soul into her acts, utilizing them to express and showcase her creativity, imagination, and impressive rhinestoning skills.

Off the stage, you’re more likely to find Foxy a bit humble and modest, working behind a desk as a graphic designer in the fashion industry. It’s exactly that stark contrast in her two selves, however, that brought her into burlesque in the first place.

“I desperately needed to push myself out of my comfort zone and try something new,” Foxy shared about why she pursued the art form.

Throughout the pandemic, this Divine Darling grewmore and more weary of staying behind a desk or screen all day, and more and more desperate to move her body in new ways. “I was really in an activity rut. I was craving something to do with my physical body … IRL … in person … but not, like, exercise.”

Once she began the Divine Darlings Burlesque Course at Houston Divine Studio, she knew it was the perfect conduit for everything she knew she needed, and even some she didn’t.

“[Burlesque] is an outlet for my creativity in all its forms,” Foxy said. “It’s where I don’t have to dull my shine. I don’t have to behave. I’m not too sparkly or too flashy, too crude or too crass. It gave me an identity outside of work, and a community of friends I could have never imagined.”

Some of those forms of creativity are clearly choreography and dance, as well as finding ways to express herself. But, the fashion lover also finds burlesque to be an outlet for some of her favorite hobbies: sewing, crafts, and yoga.

(Obsessing over her dog is also high on that list of hobbies, but it has a bit less to do with burlesque.)
