She may be the ultimate in performance and luxury on the stage, but off the stage, Sadie Mercedes appreciates the simple things in life.
Some of her favorite things to do include cuddling with her "velcro kitty" — a cat that seems to have a never-ending supply of and need for attention and affection — named Stout, cooking and baking, reading fiction, watching Christopher Guest movies, and spending time with her partners and the people she loves.
Of course, even off the stage, one of Sadie's abounding loves is burlesque, as she spends significant time lovingly creating costumes and crafting the perfect choreography. "Burlesque has become a beautiful creative outlet for me," she shared. "The music, the costumes, the choreography, the character development, the community of performers; it really is the whole package."
With a day-job in educational development in the healthcare industry, where she teaches healthcare workers how to be better educators, her weekdays can be a little stiff. Burlesque provides an opportunity for Sadie to express her sensuality, own her body and play with different personas. "I've spent so much of my work life focused on academics, this is a chance to get out of my head and explore my physicality."
Sadie first got into burlesque after attending Bewitched Burlesque, a free monthly burlesque show at the Thorn & Moon Magickal Market, and was immediately transfixed. The fire she had for dance as a child reignited, and she jumped into burlesque classes at Houston Divine Studio. When the studio offered an 11-week burlesque course with a showcase, she couldn't sign up fast enough.
She made her stage debut in May 2022, and hasn't slowed down since. She kittens and performs in burlesque shows throughout Houston and Galveston, with her next show being this Saturday night, February 11, at Mob Bar in Galveston.

The show will also feature performances from headliner and Executive Producer of The Neon Rouge Cabaret Show Reina La Rouge, Divine Darlings Zucifer Morningstar and Holly GoSpankMe; and Lady Annabelle, who also hosts and produces the show.
